The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has announced a groundbreaking visa-on-arrival policy for the highly anticipated “December in GH” initiative. Effective December 1, 2024, to January 15, 2025, international visitors can enjoy entry into Ghana without the need for pre-approved visas. This development aims to simplify travel procedures and encourage more global tourists to experience Ghana’s vibrant cultural and festive offerings.
The new policy is a key feature of the “Beyond the Return” campaign, a 10-year strategic initiative designed to amplify Ghana’s status as a premier destination for tourism and investment. The government aims to attract a diverse influx of travelers eager to explore Ghana’s rich heritage, cultural celebrations, and dynamic events by waiving the pre-approval process.
In a directive issued on November 28, 2024, Hon. Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Minister of Transport, urged airlines to adjust their systems to align with the policy promptly. The initiative is expected to strengthen Ghana’s ties with the global African diaspora while fostering cultural exchange and economic growth. Akwasi Agyeman, CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, underscored the significance of the policy, encouraging travelers to seize this unique opportunity and immerse themselves in Ghana’s festive atmosphere.
The “December in GH” campaign offers an array of officially endorsed events, including cultural showcases, vibrant festivals, and entertainment experiences. Since its launch in 2019, the initiative has positioned Ghana as a must-visit holiday destination, welcoming thousands of global travelers annually.
