In preparation for Ghana’s general elections on December 7, 2024, the Ministry of the Interior has declared the temporary shutdown of all land borders.
This important choice seeks to safeguard the electoral process and maintain the integrity of the elections.
In a statement, the Ministry clarified that the shutdown would commence right away and stay enforced until 6:00 PM on Sunday, December 8, 2024.
The Ministry underscored the significance of this directive for ensuring a calm and organized election.
State security organizations, such as the police and military, will play an active role in implementing this temporary shutdown.
“This decision is a precautionary measure to safeguard the electoral process,” said the Ministry’s spokesperson.
“We want to ensure that the elections are conducted in a secure environment, free from any external influence or disruption.”
“We are working closely with all relevant security agencies to ensure that the borders are effectively monitored and that all protocols are followed,” a senior security official stated.
“We are prepared to take swift action against anyone found violating the border closure directive.”
