“I WAS POISONED AND FACED REPERCUSSIONS FOR #KENMUSTGO CAMPAIGN” – NPP MP Appiah-Kubi Reveals

The Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has opened up about the personal toll of leading the #KenMustGo campaign that sought the resignation of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.

In a candid interview on JoyNews, Appiah-Kubi revealed that his advocacy, alongside 80 other New Patriotic Party (NPP) MPs, came at a great cost, including threats to his life and a harrowing experience of being poisoned.

“My own government pursued me in diverse ways after our advocacy, and that is a fact,” he disclosed. “Even my life, at some point, was in danger. I suffered pain, received treatment, and, by the grace of God, I am still alive.”

Recounting the ordeal, the MP explained how his poisoning incident almost led to his transfer from a medical facility to Accra, a move his wife firmly resisted. Despite the life-threatening challenges, he expressed gratitude for his recovery and the support of American institutions that have since helped enhance his security.

Appiah-Kubi admitted that he had underestimated the potential consequences of his actions but vowed to be more cautious moving forward. “I got careless over a short period of time, but it won’t happen again because I am now more careful,” he assured.

The revelations underscore the intense backlash faced by Appiah-Kubi and his colleagues for taking a firm stance against a key figure within their own party.
