The board of the Telecel Ghana Music Award (TGMA) has shared why King Paluta’s hit song “Makoma” was not considered for several award categories this year.
In their announcement on April 3, 2025, the Board addressed the public’s confusion about why “Makoma” was not included, even though it was such a popular song.
They explained that the decision was due to a specific TGMA rule. This rule states that artists cannot have more than one song in the same category, except for the collaboration categories.
The Board explained that this rule is designed to keep artists from splitting their vote chances. It encourages them to focus all their promotional efforts on a single track.
After their review, they found that between King Paluta’s two songs, “Aseda” was more popular than “Makoma.” As a result, “Makoma” wasn’t eligible for nomination in those categories.
In their statement, the board said: “Based on our research, including streaming numbers and airplay from 175 radio stations, Aseda was adjudged the more popular choice in both Highlife and Most Popular Song of the Year categories,”
