GOVERNMENT OF GHANA CANCELS 701 DIPLOMATIC AND SERVICE PASSPORTS OVER FAILURE TO RETURN
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declared the cessation of diplomatic and passport services for ex-Ministers and their spouses, ex-members of Parliament, and other state officials who formerly served under the previous Akufo-Addo administration.
The diplomatic passport will be cancelled starting Tuesday, May 6, 2025. An announcement from the Ministry stated that diplomatic passports are now void for international travel.
The Ministry had previously declared on January 15, 2025, and March 10, 2025, a retrieval of Diplomatic and Service Passports from those impacted.
“All other persons holding official passports not currently serving in any official capacity for the State, or otherwise holding any position that falls under the requirements of sections 6 and 7 of the Passports and Travel Certificates Act, 1967(NLCD 155),” the Ministry sated.

- Former Members of Parliament
- Former Members of the Council of State and Spouses
- Former/Retired Justices of the Superior and Lower Courts
- Former Regional Ministers, Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives Former Officers of State Institutions, Chairpersons and Members of Boards
- Officials of the National Cathedral Project
- Former Non-Career Ambassadors and Dependents
- Religious and Traditional Leaders
- Businessmen and Entrepreneurs
- Former Government Functionaries
The Ministry recognised the adherence of 407 Diplomatic and 403 Service Passport holders, who properly submitted their passports following the earlier recall directive.
As a result of the other holders’ inability or unwillingness to adhere to the directive, the following 341 unreturned Diplomatic and 360 Service Passports with the specified serial numbers have been cancelled immediately upon the orders of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa
“All the affected passports have been placed on the stop- list and shall be confiscated from any person attempting to travel with same,” the statement added.
