HOW DADA KD’S 2020 CRYPTIC POST FORESHADOWED HIS DEATH IN 2025

Late highlife musician’s heartfelt message reignites calls for better support for Ghanaian artists.

Ghanaians were stunned by the news of highlife musician Dada Kwaku Duah, popularly known as Dada KD passing away on May 16, 2025, at age 56. As the music community mourned, attention turned to a poignant Facebook post he made in 2020 following the death of actor Bishop Bernard Nyarko.

Upon learning of Nyarko’s sudden death on May 3, 2020, Dada KD posted: “May your gentle soul find you a perfect place to keep you, Bishop Bernard Nyarko. My regards to Kofi B and tell him it won’t be long; I’ll join you all too soon. Our industry sucks.”

This cryptic message expressed his deep frustration with the challenges Ghanaian musicians face, widely interpreted as a cry for help.

Dada KD had long spoken openly about the hardships in the industry, lamenting the lack of recognition and support. In a 2020 interview, he remarked,

“We celebrate the dead more than the living… People are still enjoying my music but they are not asking how I am surviving.”
