COURT ISSUES BENCH WARRANT FOR BUSINESSMAN OVER GH¢149,000
An Accra Circuit Court has mandated the arrest of Lukeman Abdul-Karim, a 27-year-old entrepreneur, for not showing up in court.
Abdul-Karim reportedly gathered GH₵149,000 from the complainant by claiming he would provide a CFA equivalent, but he did not deliver.
When the case was announced, Abdul-Karim was not present, leading the prosecution to seek a bench warrant for his arrest.
The court, led by Mr. Samuel Bright Acquah, approved the request and released the bench warrant.
The case has been postponed to June 16, 2025.
The prosecution asserts that Daniel Attah, the accuser, is a businessman, while Abdul-Karim, living in West Hills, Accra, wrongly asserted he was a forex bureau operator.
In January 2025, Abdul-Karim persuaded Attah that he could convert Cedis to foreign currencies and gathered GH₵149,000 from him.
Upon receiving the funds, he did not provide the equivalent in CFA and made excuses.
On January 25, 2025, the police were notified of the case by Attah, resulting in Abdul-Karim’s apprehension.
In the course of the investigations, Abdul-Karim repaid GH₵20,000 but did not return the outstanding balance.
