NPP PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY: BAWUMIA SWEEPS BONO EAST WITH 5,049 VOTES, BRYAN SECOND WITH 1,391
Former Vice President secures nearly 70% of votes across 11 constituencies

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has secured a decisive victory in the Bono East Region, polling 5,049 votes across all 11 constituencies in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary held on Saturday, January 31, 2026.
The result, representing approximately 69% of total valid votes cast, cements Dr. Bawumia’s dominance in the region, which is regarded as one of the key battleground areas in the party’s internal elections.
Former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong came in second with 1,391 votes, while businessman and former legislator Kennedy Ohene Agyapong placed third with 828 votes.
The total votes cast in the region stood at 7,359, of which 7,329 were valid and 20 rejected.
Strong Performance Across Constituencies
Dr. Bawumia recorded his strongest showing in the Techiman South Constituency, where he secured 1,047 votes out of 1,342 valid votes. He also posted commanding results in Kintampo North (655 votes), Atebubu-Amanten (633 votes) and Nkoranza South (632 votes).
Dr. Bryan Acheampong’s best performances came from Atebubu-Amanten, where he polled 155 votes, and Sene West, where he obtained 156 votes, showing scattered yet consistent support across several constituencies.
Kennedy Agyapong’s highest tallies were in Techiman North (146 votes) and Techiman South (132 votes), while Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, garnered 58 votes. Former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong received 13 votes across the region.
Regional Breakdown Mirrors National Trend
The Bono East results mirror Dr. Bawumia’s strong national showing, as preliminary counts indicate that he maintains a comfortable lead across several regions.
Over 211,000 delegates voted at more than 300 polling centres nationwide in what party officials described as one of the most transparent and peaceful internal elections in the NPP’s history.
The outcome from Bono East, analysts say, underscores Dr. Bawumia’s deep grassroots support and his growing influence among the party’s regional structures as the NPP prepares to rebuild momentum ahead of the 2028 general elections.
