NPP PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARIES: THE DELEGATES HAVE SPOKEN, AND WE HAVE TO TAKE IT – Ken Agyapong
Kennedy Agyapong urges calm and unity among supporters after trailing in polls

Presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has called on his supporters to remain calm, respectful, and united following the outcome of the party’s presidential primaries, which show him trailing behind former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, January 31, 2026, Mr. Agyapong acknowledged the verdict of the delegates and emphasised the need for discipline and maturity within the party.
“We have to stay calm. We believe in the party. The delegates have spoken, and we have to take it,” he said.
He cautioned his supporters against engaging in acts or rhetoric that could divide the NPP, stressing that unity was essential for the party’s future success.
“Do not use this against anybody in the party. Once they have decided, let’s all come together as party members and work together,” he urged.
The outspoken politician reminded his followers that defeat is an inevitable part of political life and that every contest offers lessons for the future.
“In politics, you can win, you can lose. I’m a veteran politician, so I know. I’ve gone through several defeats,” he noted.
Mr. Agyapong revealed that he had mentally prepared for any outcome in the race, describing the result as part of God’s plan.
“I cushioned myself and expected the worst, and the worst has happened. But the worst doesn’t mean it’s the end of life,” he said.
He also condemned divisive slogans like “No Ken, No Vote,” insisting that such attitudes only harm the unity and image of the party.
“Don’t say ‘No Ken, No Vote’. If it had been Ken, what would other contestants’ supporters have said? So ‘No Ken, No Vote’ should be out,” he stated.
Expressing gratitude to his campaign team and supporters, the Assin Central MP praised their dedication throughout the campaign and encouraged them to stay hopeful.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank Team Ken for the wonderful work you’ve done. We all admit we worked hard, but God’s time is the best. He knows what is good for us,” he said.
Mr. Agyapong concluded with an appeal for optimism, urging his supporters not to lose faith despite the setback.
“I know most of you are dejected. You have to keep your spirit up, because once we have life, we have everything. So don’t be dejected,” he added.
The NPP’s January 31, 2026 presidential primary saw over 211,000 delegates vote across all 276 constituencies to elect a flagbearer to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
