AFCON 2025Q: GHANA’S STRUGGLES CONTINUE WITH GOALLESS DRAW AGAINST SUDAN IN ACCRA

The Black Stars’ pursuit of a first win in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers was thwarted once again as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Sudan at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10.

Ghana, despite a spirited performance, failed to convert several second-half chances, leaving them winless after three games in the qualifiers. The match, which marked the Black Stars’ return to Accra, saw Otto Addo field a strong lineup with Mohammed Kudus donning the captain’s armband in the absence of Thomas Partey.

In defence, Abdul Mumin made way for the returning Alexander Djiku, while Alidu Seidu replaced Tariq Lamptey at right-back. Gideon Mensah also came into the squad. Atalanta midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana was handed his first start for the national team, alongside Ernest Nuamah, Jordan Ayew, and Antoine Semenyo in the attack.

Ghana almost made an early breakthrough, with Alexander Djiku’s effort narrowly missing the target. Despite creating countless opportunities, the Black Stars struggled to find the back of the net, and the first half ended goalless.

The second half saw an improved performance from Addo’s side. Antoine Semenyo missed a close-range opportunity early in the half, while Kudus and substitute Inaki Williams both had chances to break the deadlock but were denied by the Sudanese goalkeeper.

The stalemate leaves Ghana with just two points from three games, a disappointing start to their qualifying campaign. They now face a crucial return fixture against Sudan in Libya, where a win could boost their chances of moving up to second place in Group F.

With time running out, the pressure is mounting on the Black Stars to secure a victory and revive their AFCON 2025 qualification hopes.
