AGRADAA BLAMES EMPRESS GIFTY’S LAWYER FOR COURT NO-SHOW IN DEFAMATION CASE

Nana Agradaa has fired back at Empress Gifty’s legal team following accusations that her lawyer failed to appear at a critical court hearing in their ongoing defamation suit.

The trial, scheduled for June 11, 2025, at the Tema High Court, was disrupted when Empress Gifty’s counsel alleged that the defense team was absent for a hearing aimed at addressing an interlocutory injunction to restrain Agradaa from making damaging statements.

“Today, we wanted the court to move a motion on the interlocutory injunction to restrain the defendant from making statements that could affect the plaintiff [Empress Gifty]. Unfortunately, the defendant’s lawyer didn’t show up,” Empress Gifty’s lawyer said in a widely circulated video.

The plaintiff’s legal team also revealed plans to file a motion to dismiss the suit, arguing that Agradaa’s insults do not legally amount to defamation. They, however, have submitted an affidavit asserting otherwise.

In a swift response on social media, Agradaa claimed the blame lies squarely with Empress Gifty’s lawyer. She alleged that the opposing counsel failed to serve her legal team with necessary documents within the legally mandated timeframe.

“That self-acclaimed lawyer was supposed to serve my lawyer seven days before our first court hearing, but he didn’t. When we arrived at court, the judge asked where my lawyer was, and after explaining that she was on her way, I was asked to call her,” Agradaa recounted.

She added that the judge interrogated Gifty’s lawyer about proper service of documents, to which he admitted the documents were only handed over to the bailiff the previous day a delay that violated proper legal procedure.

Agradaa further criticised the opposing counsel, saying, “We all know that serving a lawyer on very short notice isn’t proper. You didn’t serve us, but while granting interviews, you refused to admit that it was your fault.”

This legal dispute is the latest escalation in a public feud between the two women, which began with Agradaa’s repeated derogatory remarks about Empress Gifty, often involving her husband. The situation intensified when Empress Gifty filed a GH¢20 million defamation lawsuit, moving the conflict from social media to the courtroom.
