Respected radio host and thriving business person, Kofi Okyere Darko (KOD), has responded to backlash from some social media users following his public endorsement of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Darko stressed that he has the right to pick his political allegiance at this point in his life, firmly stating that he is not bothered by any disapproving remarks about his choice.
He emphasized that he is old enough to decide for himself, including his political views, and showed his irritation at the notion of others trying to sway his political convictions.
“Some people will get distant as “FRIENDS” because you have chosen a side to support politically. Meanwhile, you stayed their friends when they made their political choice.
“At my age, you want to determine my views and beliefs? Eeeeish! You no dey respect like that? Even my family members have different political views, so really…
“Note: they were NEVER your friends in the first place. Tell them to F! Off,” he said.
He noted that while he was a member of the NPP, he respected his friends’ political decisions without getting involved, but now that he has changed allegiances, some people who call themselves friends have started to keep their distance from him.
In September 2023, KOD declared his departure from the NPP, the party he is affiliated with, citing their inability to fulfil the desires of Ghanaian citizens.
He voiced his dissatisfaction with the party and announced his intention to back the NDC in the upcoming 2024 elections.
