Abu Baba Sadiq, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Okaikwei Central, has lost the parliamentary seat following a re-declaration by the Electoral Commission (EC).
At first, Baba Sadiq was announced as the victor of the Okaikwei Central seat in the 2024 general elections, overcoming the sitting Member of Parliament, Patrick Yaw Boamah from the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Nonetheless, the EC subsequently annulled the original declaration because of inconsistencies and instructed a re-tabulation of results from all 141 polling stations, which included 31 outstanding stations, as required by a court order.
Following the re-collation, the Deputy Returning Officer for Okaikwei Central, Harrison Kwabena Agyapa, declared that Patrick Yaw Boamah achieved 21,099 votes, whereas Baba Sadiq garnered 19,368 votes, leading to Boamah maintaining his position.
Nonetheless, this ruling was subsequently reversed by the Supreme Court following the National Democratic Congress’s submission of an appeal against the high court’s earlier decision on the issue.
After another recount today, December 6, 2024, the EC has verified the NPP’s Patrick Yaw Boamah as the elected MP of the constituency.
This indicates that the previous CEO of 3 Music TV will not be attending parliament anymore.
