Prophet Adom Kyei-Duah has responded to public criticism surrounding his recent interactions with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and former President John Dramani Mahama during their visits to his church. The comparisons between the treatment of the two political figures have sparked debates online, with some accusing the prophet of showing favoritism toward Dr. Bawumia.
The controversy stems from Dr. Bawumia’s request for Prophet Kyei-Duah’s sacred prayer shawl during his visit, which the prophet honored. This gesture, alongside the extra prayers offered to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, raised eyebrows among critics.
Addressing the allegations, Prophet Kyei-Duah explained that Dr. Bawumia had specifically requested the shawl, describing it as a significant moment.
“A nation’s vice president asked for my shawl—me, someone many have criticized and called an anti-Christ. Who am I to say no? It’s an honor,” he stated. “This has never happened before. He is the second most powerful person in the country and the flagbearer of a major party like the NPP.”
Prophet Kyei-Duah went on to clarify that the same honor would have been extended to John Dramani Mahama if he had made a similar request.
“If Mahama had asked for my shawl, I would have done the same for him. He’s a former president and a flagbearer of a major party as well. Just look at the mysterious rains and storms that occurred when I prayed for him at my church. I hold no bias,” he explained.
The prophet emphasized that his sacred prayer shawl is not a common item and is typically used in critical or spiritually significant situations based on his discernment.
“My shawl isn’t something that people normally ask for—it’s sacred. I decide when and on whom to use it based on spiritual guidance, usually for critical situations,” he added.
Prophet Kyei-Duah’s comments come as both political figures ramp up their campaigns for the 2024 elections. While he faced backlash for allegedly favoring one candidate, the prophet maintained that his actions were guided by respect and spiritual obligations, not political affiliations.
