Media personality, Abeiku Santana has joined the ongoing controversy about the founders of Ghana.
Abeiku in a tweet on X said Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the late first president of Ghana is not only the founder of Ghana but a core founding father of the African continent.
The debate about who the founder of Ghana began after President Akufo-Addo’s comment during the Founder’s day address on Saturday, April 3.
His statement has since generated conversations nationwide prompting a response from Nkrumah’s party, the Convention People’s Party (CPP).
President Akufo-Addo during the address disagreed with the notion that Dr. Kwame Nkrumah is the only founder of Ghana.
Although he acknowledged Nkrumah’s contributions, he believed that credit should be given to other patriotic heroes.
“I speak to you this evening, rejecting completely, the notion that Ghana was founded by one man. While Kwame Nkrumah’s contributions to our independence are undeniable, it is important to acknowledge for ourselves that respect that the struggle for our nation’s freedom was a collective effort spanning several generations,” the President noted.
Other prominent personalities like veteran journalist, Kwesi Pratt, historian, Anokye and NDC’s flagbearer John Mahama have disagreed with the President.
