Romeo Ricky Roy, the fitness coach of Ghana’s senior male national team, has reportedly passed away.
Roy had reportedly complained of being sick, but he passed away before he could get well, according to a Joy Sports article.
When Roy rescued a player’s life during a Division One League match between Vision FC and Agbozume four years ago, he became well-known.
The Vision FC-employed fitness coach assisted in saving left-back Benjamin Aloma when he passed out on the field after a head-on collision.
Roy was then brought on board to work in the Black Stars’ backstage after Milovan Rajevac returned in late 2020.
He has since worked with Otto Addo and Chris Hughton, serving as a member of the coaching staff at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup and the recent 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the Ivory Coast.
Meanwhile, since Roy’s tragic death was revealed, condolences have been flooding the football community.
The PRO for the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) Yussif Alhassan Chibsah wrote on X: “Ricky Roy Romeo, why sooooo soon my brother.”
