COCOBOD REFUTES GH¢12M BLACK STARS SPONSORSHIP ALLEGATION

Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has strongly refuted reports claiming it provided a GH¢12 million sponsorship package to the Ghana national football team.

In a public notice issued by the Board, the allegation that funds earmarked for cocoa farmers were redirected to support the national team was described as “false, misleading, and without any factual basis.”

COCOBOD emphasized that it has not provided any financial support to the Black Stars and has not transferred funds meant for cocoa producers to football-related endeavors.

“At no point has COCOBOD diverted funds meant for farmer payments to support the Black Stars,” the statement emphasised.

The Board reaffirmed that the welfare of cocoa farmers continues to be its top priority, emphasizing its dedication to prompt payments for cocoa purchases, the provision of farm supplies, extension services, and ongoing investment in the cocoa sector.

The public was also cautioned by COCOBOD to ignore the rumors that are going around and to only trust its official channels for accurate information.

The Board is attempting to convince stakeholders, especially cocoa farmers, that their interests continue to be its top priority at a time when public interest in how state institutions distribute funds for national programs is at an all-time high.
