Media personality and MC Yaa Yeboah has publicly condemned Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako for his reaction to the tragic East Legon accident that his 16-year-old son was involved.
The incident, which took place on October 12, 2024, resulted in the passing of two young girls, Justine Mary-Anne Enyonam Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh Boaten.
Yaa Yeboah voiced strong disappointment and frustration with the bishop’s defense of his son during an appearance on UTV’s United Showbiz on October 26.
Bishop Amoako had described the incident as an unfortunate accident, explaining, “My son did not carry a gun to kill anybody. He involved himself in a terrible accident, and I am not the one who did it, nor his mother. It is because of my name that people are talking.
He stressed that the tragedy was not a deliberate act of violence, trying to redirect some of the criticism aimed at his family.
Yaa Yeboah criticized the bishop’s comments as lacking sensitivity, branding her son’s behavior as “irresponsible and unnecessary.” She claimed the accident could have been avoided and criticized the bishop for minimizing the seriousness of the incident.
“If your son had shot these people to death, it would have been better,” she said. “Do you know why? Because they wouldn’t have suffered the excruciating pain of burning alive. At least their families would have had bodies to bury.”
She went on to say that the terrible ordeal suffered by these young girls was appalling, and Bishop Amoako’s comments showed a lack of compassion towards the victims and their families.
“We can’t even know which part of their charred bodies was retrieved for burial, whether it was their skull or bones. That is how sad it is. So, I repeat, Archbishop, if your son had shot them, it would have been better because that pain and torture they endured before they died would have been avoided.”
Yaa Yeboah proceeded to allege that the bishop had previously confessed to driving without a license in Ghana, implying that he believed he was above the law.
This unfortunate incident has highlighted the importance of stricter adherence to road safety regulations, particularly regarding young drivers, prompting discussions about parental duty and liability in safeguarding their children on the road.
