Sonnie Badu, a Gospel musician, has attributed the pitch invasion by Ghanaian supporters to their disappointment over losing bets on the Angola – Ghana match.
He contends that their concern lies not in the country’s defeat in the game.
Instead, they are irritated because they lost their wager.
In a post shared via social media, he said “The reason people go crazy and break things when their team loses often comes down to the bets they’ve placed and the money they’ve lost. When you see a man weeping after a lost match, it’s because he knows the true cost.
The day I realized this was the day I took my heart out of football—it’s a betting game that can make you rich or broke.
So, dear boys, when you’re playing, remember that lives are at stake. Come back stronger. And to the people of Kumasi, I’m deeply sorry that the record has been broken, but let’s continue to support them—they will do better”.
Ghana was defeated by Angola by one goal in their debut African Cup of Nations Qualifier
