FOREIGN MINISTER, DELEGATION ARRIVE IN LATVIA TO PROBE DEATH OF GHANAIAN STUDENT NANA AGYEI AYIA

Ghanaian officials and their families are becoming increasingly concerned about Nana Agyei Ahyia in Latvia, which has prompted the Foreign Minister and a delegation to visit the nation for additional inquiries.
Nana Agyei, a first-year Electrical Engineering (Adaptronic) student at Riga Technical University, enrolled in July 2024 and has been living in an apartment on Baznicas Street in Riga.
He apparently voiced concerns about his safety in a voicemail to family members in the days preceding his death on June 4, 2025. The family was notified shortly after that he had passed away under unknown circumstances.
The family questioned the first explanation, claiming that Nana Agyei would not have purposefully hurt himself and had no known history of emotional turmoil. They then sent letters to his school, the police, and the Foreign Ministry asking for clarification.
According to family spokesperson Sarah Nimli, their efforts did not receive the expected response, raising concerns about transparency in the investigation.
With assistance from the Ghana Embassy in Berlin, which is in charge of Hana’s affairs in Latvia, a family member traveled to Latvia to seek additional explanation after months of unanswered queries.
The Foreign Minister and the delegation’s visit are intended to comfort the grieving family and guarantee a comprehensive and open investigation.
