The longest serving National officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Johnson Asiedu Nketia has bid farewell to the rank and file of the party for the support during his 17 years tenure as General Secretary of the party.
Mr. Aseiedu who since 2002 since become General Secretary for the umbrella party, served since that time in and out of the party being in government and out of power, winning power for the party and also taking them back into opposition in the 2016 elections and the 2020.
At the ongoing delegates’ conference of the party, the man known as general mosquito thanked all who supported him during his reign and reaffirmed his zeal to serve in another position as chairman.
He is contesting incumbent Samuel Ofoso Ampofo, which many have described as a two race horse in a four man chairmanship race.
He is tipped to unseat the incumbent as a number of party faithful ascribe to his type of politics which many believe the NPP is afraid of.
In his usual warring faction, Mr. Aseidu Nketai dressed in his war smock said his reign would not have been possible without the support of the grassroots of the party in whom he is counting on for victory in his newly found desire of national chairmanship.
“I am officially announcing my resolve to leave the General Secretary position of the party I have held for 17 years. I am indebted to the rank and file of the NDC especially the grassroots who made my reign possible all these years”
“Thank you all for years of support for this great party and making it what it is today” he said.
The NDC is currently holding its 10tht National Delegates Congress, which some political analyst are suggesting the outcomes of this even if not handle well could keep the NDC in opposition for a much longer period.,
Reasons they ascribe to this is the nature of elections and the high level of bigwigs contesting at the various national positions on display.
