From her prison cell, Ama Governor has written a strong letter to show support for the ongoing #FreeTheCitizens demonstration.
The demonstration, sparked by posts on social media, is a demand from the youth of Ghana for the prompt release of Ama Governor and approximately 50 individuals detained following a prior protest organized by Democracy Hub against illegal mining, also referred to as Galamsey.
In response to the three-day #FreeTheCitizens protest that began this morning, Ama penned a letter to the protesters.
She started by saying, “Dear Comrades, when I say “Aluta!” You respond Cononua“.
Ama, who is also a lawyer, continued her letter, noting that “Ghana has never seen a day as great as this, 3rd October 2024, when Ghana Youth, in spite of the lines of division planted to subvert the strength in our unity, chooses to pick up camaraderie in marching side-by-side to fight against the devastating effects of illegal mining (Galamsey) on the health, resources, and well-being of the Ghanaian people; demand Government accountability and free political prisoners.“
In the image of the letter shown, Ama Governor also mentioned Ghana’s late Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the widely acclaimed pan-African champion, noting that his spirit will be looking pleased on this occasion.
