The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has officially abolished the controversial 1% Electronic Transfer Levy (E-Levy) and issued strict directives for compliance, including immediate refunds for any charges applied after the April 2, 2025, termination date.
“The repeal of Act 1075 takes immediate effect. All charging entities must adhere strictly to these directives—failure constitutes a violation of Ghanaian tax law,” stated the GRA notice.
The E-Levy’s removal follows months of public pressure and parliamentary review. Originally implemented in 2022, the tax faced criticism for disproportionately affecting low-income users and stifling digital transactions.
