GHANAIAN CITIZEN RALPH DE FELLOW ARRESTED AFTER CONFRONTATION WITH NHYIAESO MP STEPHEN AMOAH IN PARLIAMENT

Ghanaian citizen Ralph De Fellow has been arrested by the Ghana Police following a confrontation with Nhyiaeso Member of Parliament (MP), Stephen Amoah, at Parliament House on Tuesday morning. The incident, which has sparked widespread public debate, occurred after De Fellow questioned the MP about his responsibilities and performance in office.

De Fellow is currently in police custody at the Greater Accra Regional Police Headquarters. A video of the incident, shared on the 1957 social media page, captures De Fellow calmly explaining his actions and expressing his belief in the right of citizens to hold their leaders accountable.

What Happened?
In the video, De Fellow recounts the events leading to his arrest. He stated that the confrontation with MP Stephen Amoah occurred at Parliament House, where he questioned the MP about his duties and achievements. According to De Fellow, the MP felt “threatened” by the interaction, prompting him to call the police.

“I’ve always been saying that people actually use the powers we have given them to intimidate us,” De Fellow said in the video. “There is nothing wrong for a citizen to ask persons that we are putting into offices their responsibilities and what they are doing.”

De Fellow was picked up by the police at approximately 4:45 PM on Tuesday and taken into custody. When asked about the charges against him, he responded, “I don’t know yet.”

In the video, De Fellow emphasized that he respects the police for doing their job but questioned the MP’s motives for calling the authorities. “Unless the Honourable Member of Parliament for Nhyiaeso tells us his reason for calling the police to arrest me,” he said. “Is it that I was asking him questions as a citizen? Is it that I am trying to ask him to confirm what he has done in his constituency?”
