The Ministry of Roads and Highways has revealed intentions to reinstate tolls for roads and bridges in Ghana, starting today (6 February 2025). The initiative seeks to raise funds for road upkeep and associated infrastructure developments.
In a press announcement released on Thursday, 6 February 2025, the Ministry detailed its plan to introduce a contemporary, technology-based toll collection system. The new system will be implemented via an open, transparent, and competitive procurement process to guarantee cost-effectiveness and equity.
The Ministry reassured the public of its dedication to tackling the ongoing issues in tolling and funding for road maintenance.
This project aims to improve the nation’s roadway infrastructure and promote lasting maintenance methods.
Nastar Ahmad Yartey, head of the Public Relations Unit, signed the statement, highlighting the government’s commitment to a modern and efficient tolling system.
