British actor, Idris Elba has announced his intentions to move to Africa within the next ten years in order to help boost the film industry on the continent.
Renowned for his performances in The Wire and Luther, the 52-year-old actor is spearheading projects to establish movie studios in Zanzibar and Accra, Ghana.
Elba, who has ties to Africa through his Ghanaian mother and Sierra Leonean father, is committed to supporting the African film industry with his influence and resources.
At a conference in Accra, Elba stated his dedication to making his permanent home on the continent stating, “I would certainly consider settling down here; not even consider, it’s going to happen.”
In a BBC interview, Elba also proudly identified with the Ga tribe in Ghana, sharing, “I am a Ga boy, so I like my sun, I like the heat, I like my food.”
His strong cultural connections enhance his dedication to promoting genuine African narratives in film.
