Ghanaian rapper Derrick Sarfo Kantanka, popularly known as Amerado recently shared the difficulties he encountered during his childhood.
During an episode of her Okukuseku talk show, Emelia Brobbey interviewed Amerado, who revealed that he was unable to further his education at university following his completion of Senior High School at KNUST Senior High School due to financial constraints.
He said, “I finished Senior High School and got into Akrokerri College of Education and KNUST, but I couldn’t go because my mother couldn’t pay the fees.” I never had plans to attend KNUST because I knew it was too expensive for us. I just wanted to go to the training college, and luckily, I was accepted.”
He also mentioned the assistance he got from his mother and other individuals following the death of his father at the age of 13.
“My mother and some unknown individuals supported me because my father died when I was 13. I always wanted to continue my education because of a promise I made to my father.”
I saved up from music shows, and with the help of my team, who encouraged me to apply, two years ago, I finally got into the University of Ghana,” Amerado shared.
