Nollywood star, Ini Edo has shared her personal and emotional struggle with infertility, disclosing that she has gone through more than six miscarriages and unsuccessful in vitro fertilization (IVF) attempts.
In a recent episode of the reality show ‘Young, Famous & African’, the 42-year-old actress revealed how her challenges with fertility influenced her journey to becoming a mother.
“I got married at the age of 26 because I thought at 31 I would have been done with childbearing and would have retired and focused on my career. But life did not pan out that way,” she said.
“I have had over six miscarriages. I do not like to go into it. I tried. It was not a fancy way out for me. I have always wanted to do this. I have had IVF. I know what I have dealt with as a woman.”
“My journey is one that I have not really been wanting to talk about because it is personal,” she revealed.
“I went through surrogacy. I never thought I would be someone who would have fertility issues. But I have had issues carrying pregnancies long-term. And it looked like it was not going to happen the way I wanted it to happen. So, this option came and I took it.
Edo revealed that after considering different alternatives, surrogacy was the route she selected.
Even though she had first been reluctant to openly talk about this choice, she believed it was vital to convey her experience with the aim of encouraging others facing similar circumstances.
In 2023, Ini Edo realized her aspiration of becoming a mother via surrogacy.
She additionally mentioned that her single status is affected by her concerns about dating a toxic partner.
Edo wed US businessman Philip Ehiagwina in 2008, yet the pair divorced in 2014.
Currently, she is still navigating her path to motherhood, welcoming both the difficulties and joys that come with being a mom.
