Renowned media personality, Bridget Otoo, has responded to the assurance made by Vice President and NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to eliminate the electronic transaction levy (E-levy), betting tax, and other taxes, including the recently introduced emission levy.
Bridget Otoo responded by expressing doubt about Dr. Bawumia’s assurance and bringing up his prior resistance to taxing electronic transfers when the NPP was in opposition.
She questioned the legitimacy of his present pledge to eliminate certain taxes, pointing out that he participated in the E-levy’s implementation after taking government.
“The man who said it is wrong to tax momo in opposition supported the taxation of momo with the introduction of e-levy. Today he says he would not tax Bet. I hope you know what it means #BawuliarSpeaks,” Bridget Otoo commented on her social media page.

In an address on February 7, 2024, Dr. Bawumia declared his desire to do away with taxes on emissions, gambling, and electronic transactions.
He underlined that eliminating the e-levy will help the economy transition to one that is cashless. He further promised to do away with gaming taxes, the carbon tax, and the 15% power tax by 2025.
