I MET MY DAD FOR THE FIRST TIME AT AGE 40 – Mikki Osei Berko Reveals
Ghanaian actor, Mikki Osei Berko, popularly known as Dada Boat has discussed his upbringing without his father, sharing that he met him for the first time when he was 40 years old.
While speaking on GhanaWeb’s Talkertainment show, Mikki shared with Elsie Lamar that despite his father’s absence being linked to specific circumstances, he feels no bitterness.
“I met my dad for the first time at age 40. I don’t say this to discredit him because he had his own issues at the time. He is still alive, and we are very close now. We bonded so well after we met,” he said.
The actor wishes that his experience will inspire young individuals in comparable circumstances, urging them not to let a parent’s absence determine their future.
“This does affect lives, but if you stay focused, you can build your life with or without a parent,” he advised.
Contemplating the influence of his father’s absence, Mikki acknowledged that it affected his capacity to manage relationships.
“In relationships, there are things I struggled to understand that I could have learned by seeing my mom and dad together while growing up,” he shared.
He recognized the widely held notion that children brought up by single parents might encounter difficulties in their own marriages, noting that he occasionally aligns with this viewpoint.
“When one parent is absent, it becomes difficult to grasp certain dynamics in relationships,” he noted.
In spite of the difficulties, he showed appreciation for his experiences and the insights he has gained.
“I believe I could have been a better person if I had both parents living together peacefully. Their love affects you in many ways. I haven’t turned out too bad, but if I had learned certain things growing up, I could have been even better,” he reflected.
