I PAID EACH OF THE 800 DELEGATES GH1000 BUT GOT JUST 22 VOTES – Asare Bediako Weeps

Mr. Robert Asare Bediako, one of the regional contestants for the chairmanship seat in the Ashanti Region, has admitted to paying GHS1,000 to each of the delegates that took part in the recently held delegates conference of the ruling New Patriotic Party, but he still came in last place. Despite this, Mr. Robert Asare Bediako did not win the election.

The incumbent, Mr. Barnard Antwi Boasiako, was successful in retaining his position.

In political circles, Mr. Boasiako is known as Chairman Wontumi, and he won the election with 464 votes, defeating his primary competitor, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, (COKA), who received 306 votes.

Mr. Asare Bediako received 22 votes, while the other two candidates, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi and Oheneba Kofi Adum Bawuah, received a total of nine and three votes, respectively.

On Monday, May 30, 2022, while appearing on the current affairs and political show GhanaAkoma on Akoma FM, Mr. Bediako made the following statement:

“While I was paying each delegate GH1,000, I thought I would win but some paid more than me so the delegates also gave in to the highest bidder and it’s very concerning the trend of monetisation in our body politics.”
