“I SABI THE THING I GO DO” – Dr. Bawumia Shocks the Arts Fraternity with Pidgin Response to Shatta Wale’s Question

In an unexpected twist during the October 16th “Evening Encounter with the Arts and Tourism Fraternity” at Alisa Hotel, Ghana’s Vice President and Presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, left the audience stunned as he fluently answered Shatta Wale’s burning question—in pidgin English! The viral moment was captured in a now trending video that shows Dr. Bawumia addressing the concerns of street boys, a topic the dancehall star brought to the forefront during the Q&A session.

The bold and passionate Shatta Wale, representing the voice of the streets, had earlier asked Dr. Bawumia how he would communicate with and uplift the underrepresented youth who often don’t benefit from formal job creation schemes. In a heartfelt plea, the dancehall king requested that the Vice President respond in pidgin, a language that speaks to the everyday struggles of the street boys who follow them.

To the amazement of the crowd, Dr. Bawumia, who is not publicly known for speaking pidgin, confidently replied, “Wetin’ you say?” before diving into his response. “The thing be say me wey I dey inside politics, the thing wey I dey my heart be the people wey dey suffer for the country. Ibi in dey my heart,” he said, affirming his commitment to Ghana’s marginalized youth. He went on to explain, in pidgin, that he understands their struggles, having once worked on the street himself, doing jobs like laboring, cleaning, and driving taxis.

Shatta Wale’s powerful question and Dr. Bawumia’s unexpected response have sent waves across social media, with many praising the Vice President for his ability to connect with the masses in such a relatable manner.
