Ken Ofori-Atta, Ghana’s embattled finance minister, has apologized to the country’s citizens for the present economic difficulties.
In his opening remarks, Mr. Ofori-Atta said that the administration had no desire to subject Ghanaians to any kind of suffering. The ad hoc committee had been formed by the Speaker of Parliament to look into claims that would necessitate his removal from office as made by the Minority.
The current problem, according to the finance minister, was not brought on by the government’s carelessness but rather by the disastrous consequences of Covid-19.
“I am truly sorry. When we set out so purposefully in 2017, we didn’t expect Covid-19 would devastate us this badly…but we have not been resting on our oars.”
He continued by saying that despite the impacts of Covid-19, the government had worked to guarantee that Ghanaians had regular access to power, that the nation’s roads would continue to be fixed, and that government employees would always be paid on time.
