IT’S NOT ABOUT TALENT, WE HAVE TALENTED PLAYERS – Saddick Adams Blames Black Stars’ AFCON Failure On GFA

Fans are feeling disheartened due to The Black Stars’ recent string of bad results. The team notably did not manage to win any matches throughout the entire AFCON qualification campaign.

Even though Ghana has a strong footballing background with four AFCON victories and great showings in World Cups, they were unable to secure a win against supposed lesser teams like Sudan, Niger, and Angola, which many expected them to defeat easily.

“You have players who compete week in and week out in the topmost leagues in the world,” Adams remarked. He expressed disbelief at how these players, after thriving in elite competitions, seem unrecognizable in national team games.

“And then they come here to play, and you find yourself askiIng, ‘Are these really the players who were in the Premier League last week? Is this the guy who scored in the Spanish La Liga?’”

This significant underperformance underlines the increasing crisis in Ghanaian soccer, heightening demands for fundamental changes.

“You are in a group with Sudan, Niger, and Angola, so not having talent should not be an issue,” Adams said, dismissing the idea that lack of quality players is to blame.

“If we were grouped with Brazil, Spain, or Germany, that would have been a factor.” he added.

Adams believed that the team’s poor performance was caused by underlying problems in its structure.

“It’s not about talent,” he emphasised, highlighting how the players’ clear skill displayed at the club level is invalidated once they compete for the national team.
