“I’VE NEVER BEEN AN NPP MEMBER”- Highlife Star Kwabena Kwabena Clarifies Political Affiliation

Renowned highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has set the record straight about his political affiliations, firmly stating that he has never been a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

In an exclusive interview, the “Aso” hitmaker revealed that while he actively supported Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s presidential campaigns from 2008 to 2016, he was never a card-bearing member of the NPP.

“I don’t belong to the NPP. I did stuff for them, but I’ve never been a formal member of the party,” Kwabena Kwabena clarified. “I created a campaign song for candidate Akufo-Addo in 2008 and again in 2012. In 2016, I supported his candidacy, and when he won, that was the end of my direct involvement.”

However, the musician expressed disappointment over the unauthorized use of his work during the 2024 election cycle. He disclosed that his 2008 campaign song for Akufo-Addo was edited and repurposed for Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign without his consent.

“I was hurt by the move,” Kwabena Kwabena admitted. “There were discussions about a possible remix, but I was surprised to hear an edited version of my 2008 song being used for Bawumia’s campaign. It felt like my voice and work were taken for granted.”

The artist emphasized that his support for Akufo-Addo’s past campaigns was based on personal conviction rather than party loyalty. He also confirmed that he did not participate in the NPP’s 2024 campaign efforts.
