The spokesperson for the late Member of Parliament for the Ejisu, Kwasi Owusu Twumasi says his boss, Deputy Finance Minister, John Ampontuah Kumah died at Suhum while on his way to hospital for treatment in Accra on Thursday 7th March 2024 afternoon.
He claimed that the deputy minister passed away with his wife and personal physician accompanying him in an ambulance.
He said that the deceased MP had been scheduled to travel to Germany for medical care, but that he had to be brought to the hospital immediately in order to receive critical care before it was possible to send him there.
Given the late MP’s parliamentary duties and position as deputy finance minister, Mr. Twumasi called his passing a great loss for the whole Ejisu Constituency and the nation.
According to him, his late employer was a sincere and altruistic politician who positively impacted the people in the Ejisu constituency.
As soon as word of the tragedy spread, a large crowd gathered in front of the New Patriotic Party office in Ejisu.
In the Ejisu Market, which is located directly across from the party office, what was meant to be a bustling market day became a day of sadness.
After winning the Ejisu seat in 2016, John Kumah kept his position in 2020.
Within the New Patriotic Party, he held various positions, including Deputy Minister of Finance and CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP).
