Veteran actress and TV personality, Grace Omaboe, affectionately known as Maame Dokono, has announced that she will be launching a book on August 7, 2024.
The announcement was made at an event at the Silverbird Cinemas in Accra on July 30, 2024.
In videos shared on social media by Metro TV, the event was held to mark her 80th birthday anniversary and celebrate her 60 years in the Ghanaian movie industry.
The book will be a memoir covering various aspects of her life, including how she delivered all six of her children via C-section, her experiences with former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, and her time in the movie industry, among other topics.
Grace Omaboe, also known as Maame Dokono, is a prominent Ghanaian actress, singer, TV personality, author, and former politician. She began her career in the 1970s as a writer and actress on GTV, gaining fame through the series “Obra” and the children’s programme “By The Fire Side.” Known for her roles in both Akan and English films, she starred in notable movies like “Kwaku Ananse” and “Children of the Mountain.”
In politics, she ran for parliament with the NDC in 2000 and 2004 but later joined the NPP in 2008. She left politics in 2016, citing dishonesty and personal challenges. Omaboe also managed the Peace and Love Orphanage, now Graceful Grace School.
She has six children, with two in the US, two in the Netherlands, and two in Ghana. In 2017, she was appointed President of the Golden Movie Awards Africa jury. Her extensive filmography includes titles such as “I Surrender,” “Matters of the Heart,” and “John and John.”
