MANY RICH MEN IN GHANA DON’T KNOW HOW TO GIVE – Michael Blackson

Ghanaian-American comedian, Michael Blackson recently talked about selfishness, a big problem he thinks contributes to the problems in his own country.

During a conversation with Kwaku Sintim-Misa (KSM), Blackson shared his perspective, noting, “We have a reputation for being selfish, which is often a factor in the difficulties we face because we struggle with generosity… Many affluent individuals here only prioritize themselves.”

He drew attention to the differences in tax laws between Ghana and the United States, where high incomes pay less in taxes while still contributing a sizeable amount to the country’s coffers.

“In the U.S., if you earn a million dollars annually, a significant chunk of that goes to taxes. But here, there’s less of that burden; wealthy individuals aren’t contributing as much,” Blackson remarked.

He emphasized that this offers the wealthy a chance to acknowledge their social responsibilities and contribute back to their local communities.

“What are you doing for your people? It’s time to wake up and find ways to contribute,” he urged, highlighting the importance of philanthropy.

Blackson’s remarks were made in relation to conversations concerning his “Michael Blackson Academy,” a program that provides free education to kids in the Central Region of Ghana.

He conveyed the hope that these kinds of initiatives will encourage more affluent people to help the underprivileged in their nation.

“I hope to open their eyes and encourage a shift in mindset, making everyone more compassionate,” he concluded.
