Ghanaian gospel artist Sonnie Badu has commented on US-based Ghanaian comedian and actor Michael Blackson’s recent complaints on social media about his investments in the country being lost.
During a recent interview, Sonnie Badu talked about the absence of royalty payments to musicians in Ghana after his colleague Joyce Blessing’s recent comments.
The gospel singer expressed the view that this was a significant challenge facing the entertainment sector throughout Africa. He urged for structural reforms across the continent and pointed to Michael Blackson’s remarks on Ghana.
Sonnie Badu mentioned that the comedian’s fame in the United States added validity to his grievances and harmed Ghana’s image globally.
He observed that Blackson’s complaints might deter prospective investors from coming to Ghana to make substantial investments in different sectors.
He said: “You just read what Michael Blackson said about what happened to him. Now, this guy is an international figure and everything he says carries a lot of weight. What he has done has damaged Ghana big time because what it is going to do is tell everybody not to go and invest in Ghana.”
Michael Blackson gained notice on social media for his outburst against the Ghanaian government.
The comedian admitted to buying Eurobonds to support his school in Agona Nsaba, but faced considerable losses as a result of investing in Ghanaian bonds.
