NO REMANDED PROTESTOR IS PREGNANT – Police Clarifies

The Ghana Police Service has revealed that allegations of one of the detained protesters being pregnant and held for two weeks are false.

After undergoing two different tests, one at the police hospital and another at a private facility, both results showed no sign of infection.

According to the Police, Gloria Vera Louise, the woman in question, did not say she was pregnant during her arrest or in court. To confirm her claim, she was given two separate tests in public.

It is worth noting that Vera, who was being escorted by the police, insisted that she was expecting a child, a statement that was verified by a family member who talked to the press.

“In the case of the alleged pregnant woman, Gloria Vera Louise, We would like to clarify that at the time of the arrest, there was no visible indication that she was pregnant. Additionally, at no point during the arrest or subsequent interactions did the said suspect inform the Police of a pregnancy. Again, there was no communication to the court of any such condition, either by herself or through her lawyers.

“In order to establish the veracity or otherwise of the claim in the public domain of the alleged pregnancy, the Police took the initiative and sent her to the Police Hospital and an independent health facility for a thorough medical examination. Both medical results came out negative, suggesting that Gloria Vera Louise, is not pregnant as claimed.”

At the same time, Grace Asantewaa, a 50-year-old woman, was not put in a cage but was released on self-recognizance bail after being charged with putting her 12-year-old daughter’s life in danger at the protest.
