A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere Darko has expressed shock over the news that foreign nationals who come to Ghana will have to take compulsory health Insurance between $45 to $270 before they are admitted into the country.
This initiative will be started on July 1, 2024, according to a report by Graphic Online.
In a reaction on social media to the said initiative, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko expressed shock indicating that it may be fake news.
He said, “Oh how? This has to be fake!”.
Graphic Online is reporting that this initiative was launched in February 2024 by the Health Ministry and the National Health Insurance Scheme.
It was launched because of lessons learnt from the COVID-19 outbreak in Ghana where the state had to cater for foreign nationals in the country.
The policy pertains specifically to non-residents visiting Ghana for a period of less than six months in any period of 12 months.
