OUTGOING SIC MD DUAH-YENTUMI LOCKS OFFICE, SUES TO BLOCK NEW APPOINTEE JAMES AGYENIM-BOATENG FROM TAKING OVER

The High Court in Accra is set to hear an injunction application filed by Hollistar Duah-Yentumi, the immediate past Managing Director (MD) of SIC Insurance PLC, against the company and James Agyenim-Boateng, the newly appointed Acting MD. The legal action comes amid a tense leadership transition following Agyenim-Boateng’s appointment by President John Dramani Mahama on January 24, 2025.

Duah-Yentumi has reportedly refused to hand over the reins to her successor, locking the MD’s office and withholding the keys, effectively barring Agyenim-Boateng from assuming his role. She has also declined to attend meetings or provide her handover notes, further complicating the transition process.

In an interview with Citi Eyewitness News on February 5, Agyenim-Boateng expressed frustration over the situation, stating, “It has become apparent that the real difficulty regarding why I have not been able to access the office is because my predecessor has actually locked up the office and bolted with the keys. It is strange.”

The standoff has now escalated to the courts, with Duah-Yentumi filing an interlocutory injunction through her lawyer, E.N. Poku Esq. The motion seeks to restrain Agyenim-Boateng from acting as MD and prevent SIC Insurance from recognizing him in the role. The case, officially titled Hollistar Duah-Yentumi v. SIC Insurance & James Agyenim-Boateng, has drawn significant attention from industry analysts, who warn that the impasse could disrupt the company’s operations.

The High Court is expected to rule on the injunction request in the coming weeks, with stakeholders closely monitoring the outcome. The case highlights the deepening rift within SIC Insurance and raises questions about the broader implications for corporate governance and leadership transitions in state-owned enterprises.
