GHANA POLICE FILES INJUNCTION AGAINST ACTRESS YVONNE NELSON’S #DUMSORMUSTSTOP VIGIL

The Ghana Police Service has submitted a request to the High Court for an injunction to prevent Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson from carrying out her scheduled protest against inconsistent power supply, known as the ‘ #DumsorMustStop’ vigil.

This decision was made shortly after the Accra Regional Police Command advised the protest organizers to think about relocating the protest to a different venue.

The protest is planned for Saturday, May 25, 2024. The actress stated that her business is being impacted by the frequent power outages known as ‘dumsor’ in the local area.

The actress staged a protest that was alike in 2015.

Yvonne Nelson and her group recently had a meeting with the Ghana Police Service to inform them about the planned protest, as mandated by the law.

After the meeting, the police went against the route suggested by Yvonne Nelson’s team, citing that the suggested endpoint – Revolution Square – is near the Jubilee House, a security zone.

The authorities also expressed worries regarding the plan to bring the protest to a close by midnight.

The protest organizers, on the other hand, had a different opinion, stating that the destination was not close to the Jubilee House and there were no problems with the scheduled conclusion of the protest.

The police have submitted a prompt request to stop the protest, as required by the Public Order Act. The hearing for the case is set for May 24, 2024.
