Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, has secured the release of his elder brother, Jude Okoye, from custody by staking his high-value Ikoyi property as surety. Jude, the former manager of the defunct music group P-Square, was remanded in the Ikoyi Correctional Facility on Wednesday, February 26, following his arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of money laundering involving N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59.
Jude pleaded not guilty to the seven-count charge brought against him and his company, Northside Music Ltd, before Justice Alexander Owoeye of the Federal High Court in Lagos. The court adjourned the case to Friday, February 28, 2025, for a bail hearing.
At the hearing, Rudeboy stepped forward to support his brother, offering one of his Ikoyi properties as collateral. “My Lord, I have here with me documents of one of my properties situated in Ikoyi valued at several billions of naira, and I’m willing to drop it with the court, but please release my brother to me on bail today,” he stated.
Speaking outside the court premises, Rudeboy did not mince words, blaming his twin brother, Peter Okoye, for Jude’s legal troubles. “It’s Peter that is doing this. He’s putting him in prison, and I’m here to bring him out,” he said.
The EFCC’s investigation into Jude began after Peter Okoye petitioned the anti-graft agency, alleging the discovery of a “secret company” linked to Jude and his wife, Ifeoma Okoye. Peter claimed the company was involved in diverting royalties from P-Square’s music.
Following Jude’s arraignment, Rudeboy took to his Instagram Story to share a cryptic message, seemingly directed at Peter. He wrote: “Exactly what he wants. This too, shall pass. Stay strong, brother @judeengees.”
The ongoing legal battle has further exposed the deep rift within the Okoye family, which has been plagued by disputes since the breakup of P-Square. As Jude’s trial continues, Rudeboy’s bold move to secure his brother’s release highlights the family’s complex dynamics and the lengths to which Paul is willing to go to support Jude.
