According to Addi Self, a former Militant member and Ghanaian dancehall musician, Shatta Wale was the inspiration for his musical career.
Addi Self recounts that meeting Shatta Wale sparked the beginning of his musical career. When he fled the slums, he credited Shatta Wale with influencing his decision to pursue a career in music.
Addi Self revealed during an interview with Rev Erskine on Y107.9 FM’s “Myd Mornings Radio Show” that he had been communicating often with Shatta Wale on social media before they first met in person at the Accra Mall.
“Coming down here the people who had an influence on me were Yogie Doddy then Shatta Wale and when it got to Shatta, the love was deep. Me watching Shatta and spreading the love on social media with him reciprocating that was special to me and eventually, we linked up,” he said.
“The first day I met Shatta Wale was right at the roundabout at Accra Mall and I was actually coming to buy a ticket for Ghana Meet Naija. I was in my car driving and a friend who happened to have seen the number plate told me that was Shatta and we started hitting horns. We knew me from afar because we were already talking online. We started talking and asked me to link up and when he got home he texted me and that’s where it all started,” he continued.
