COMPARISON BETWEEN GHANAIAN AND NIGERIAN ARTISTS IS SENSELESS – Anne-Sophie Avé

Former French ambassador to Ghana, Anne-Sophie Ave discussed her viewpoint on the frequently made connection between artists from Ghana and Nigeria.

She voiced her displeasure with these parallels in an interview with Andy Dosty and advised Ghanaian music lovers to adopt a more impartial perspective, viewing Nigeria as a pathfinder in pushing Afrobeat music throughout Africa.

Anne-Sophie Ave stated, “The comparison doesn’t make sense, yes, it is Afrobeat, but let’s look at it like Nigeria is paving the way, is opening the doors for the entire African continent.”

She acknowledged the important contribution Nigeria made to the spread of Afrobeat music.

Ave also emphasized that Nigeria’s enormous population—250 million people—has been crucial to the country’s growth, creating a sizable fan base and market for its music. Although she acknowledged that good music may transcend numbers, a large population undoubtedly helps an artist reach a bigger audience and make money.

The former French diplomat also counseled Ghanaian artists to concentrate on marketing themselves not just in Ghana but also throughout the rest of Africa and the world.

She underlined the significance of excellent publicity and media coverage and urged musicians to break into foreign markets by reaching beyond their own countries.

Overall, Anne-Sophie Ave’s viewpoint emphasizes the distinctiveness of each nation’s music industry while acknowledging Nigeria’s significance as a pioneer in the Afrobeat genre and the benefits of its sizable population.

She exhorts Ghanaian artists to fiercely market themselves to a wider audience in order to achieve comparable success.
