I FELT BETRAYED- Asamoah Gyan Finally Speaks After Dede Replaced Him As Captain In 2019

Former skipper of the Black Stars, Asamoah (Baby Jet) Gyan has said he felt betrayed and could not control his emotions when he was stripped of his captaincy back in 2019.

André Ayew was made the new captain of the Black Stars by the then head coach Kwasi Appiah ahead of the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.

A statement released at that time says a committee that oversaw the transition said they had given their full backing to the plans of the coach.

Gyan, who has captained the Black Stars for a record seven years “has been elevated to the position of ‘General Captain’.”

Furthermore, Kwadwo Asamoah was named the deputy captain.

Speaking on Asaase FM, Gyan suggested that he was angry and could not bottle up his emotions when the strange decision was taken.

In his words, “I felt betrayed (when the Captain’s armband was taken from me in 2019) so I couldn’t control my emotions. People who know everything behind the scenes, know I was betrayed.”
