Starting in March 2025, Mahama’s government will begin providing free sanitary pads to female students to help reduce absenteeism linked to period-related issues.
During his State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, Mahama explained that this plan will help girls from Primary 5 up to Senior High School (SHS).
“To reduce absenteeism, free sanitary pads will be provided to female students from Primary 5 to SHS starting March 2025,” he stated.
The plan states that girls in Primary and Junior High School (JHS) will get seven packs of sanitary pads each term, while those in SHS will receive seven packs per semester.
This initiative is designed to tackle period poverty, making sure no girl has to skip school because she doesn’t have the menstrual hygiene products she needs.
