Gospel musician, Empress Gifty is unconcerned about criticisms likening her sound to Kuami Eugene on her new song, ‘Watch Me’.
Although some people think the gospel minstrel’s singing style and voice sound similar to Kuami Eugene’s, Empress doesn’t see any issue with it.
During her appearance as a guest on Joy FM’s ‘Ignition’, she mentioned that she intentionally imitated Eugene’s voice on the track.
“Kuami Eugene did not sing anything in that song. It’s because I recorded in Kuami Eugene’s studio and Kuami Eugene had everything, he had already composed everything. He has the template when it comes to him.
So I said I didn’t want to sound like Empress. I wanted something different. So I did the backing, I did everything,” she told aKorfa.
She added that Kuami directed the whole recording process and she was humble to listen to him “because he carries something and if you want to tap into somebody’s blessing you need to humble yourself.”
When asked if it doesn’t take anything away from her, she replied: “nothing! I am here. That is ‘Watch Me’. I am here talking about ‘Watch Me’ so it doesn’t take anything. The most important thing is that Kuami wrote the song and I delivered,” she said.
‘Watch Me’ is a gospel song in the highlife style that discusses how God has the ability to transform difficult circumstances in individuals’ lives.
Kuami Eugene wrote, arranged, and produced it.
