Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has adjourned sitting in the House amid vacant seats controversy.
The decision was made in a House where NDC lawmakers filled the Majority side of the aisle.
Earlier, the NPP MPs left because of a dispute with the opposition who occupied their seats.
In the short meeting, the Speaker concurred with Francis-Xavier Sosu that the official record needed to be amended to show that, on Thursday, the NPP group who left were the Minority.
MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin led the NPP MPs out of the chamber to wait for instructions from Speaker Alban Sumana Bagbin in their offices.
Afenyo-Markin stated that they opted for peace instead of facing their opponents head-on to prevent commotion, emphasizing the importance of preserving Ghana’s peaceful reputation.
“We didn’t cause commotion here. We left quietly and told Mr. Speaker that the right place to express those grievances would be in court. So, we expect our brothers and sisters on the NDC minority side to do the needful. But it will all be for Mr. Speaker to make a final determination. The nation is looking up to Mr. Speaker; with all his years in politics, this is a crucial moment for him to add weight to what we have done to preserve the peace.”
